Operation Ironclad. 5th-7th May 1942
From the then Chief Petty Officer ERQ, Tom Tweedy
Who served on H.M.S. Ramillies 1941-1944
I was on the Ramillies when she was torpedoed at Madagasgar, Operation "Ironclad" She returned to Durban, for repair, under her own steam, albeit very slowly. Whilst crossing the harbour bar,at Durban, ALL the crew were sent to the stern, to help lift the bow of the ship, over the obstacle. Ramillies remained there for 5 weeks, under repair.
